Massage therapy is the manipulation of soft tissue for the purpose of maintaining good health and establishing good physical condition. The practice of massage therapy is designed to relieve stress and muscle tension as well as providing a general sense of well-being by restoring metabolic balance.

Qualifications: 
Registered massage therapist (RMT) is a protected title used only by those who have the educational and registration requirements after passing the provincial certification exams. In Ontario, RMT’s are governed under the Regulated Health Professions Act and the Massage Therapy Act. This mandates a regulatory body called the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO). There is a common curriculum to follow for every school in Ontario. Depending on the school attended, the program is completed in 2-3 years. Students must complete training in massage theory, anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, hydrotherapy and remedial exercises along with supervised clinical experiences. The CMTO conducts regular evaluations of RMT’s through it’s Quality Assurance Program
